Turbocor Compressor
UniCool has been among the pioneers of low-energy cooling solutions in Denmark, and has had a strong focus on the use of Danfoss Turbocor compressor in recent years. The absolute largest energy consumption in any refrigeration and air conditioner comes from the compressors, and this is precisely where the Turbocor technology is a game changer. Danfoss Turbocor compressors use advanced technology to deliver high efficiency and low sound levels in a compact footprint. Industry leading performance is achieved by using oil free, magnetic bearings that provide world class efficiency and zero performance degradation over the life of the compressor. Permanent magnet motors and variable speed drives provide unmatched full and part load efficiency.
The design ensures low energy consumption, whether the system operates at 30% or 80% capacity, with minimal maintenance costs. The use of Turbocor technology has enabled many of UniCool’s customers to achieve energy savings of over 50% compared to previous conventional systems. By adopting Turbocor technology, our customers not only save money but also reduce their carbon footprint by preventing the release of many tonnes of CO2 each year
Immersion Cooling
Immersion cooling is particularly suitable for High Performance Computing (HPC), especially in edge deployments. In this method, IT equipment is submerged in a dielectric fluid with high thermal conductivity. The fluid absorbs the thermal energy from the IT equipment within a purpose-built tank. This energy is then transferred from the dielectric fluid to a heat exchanger and dissipated through a conventional dry cooler. The technology enables Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) as low as 1.1 and offers protection for IT equipment from dust, humidity, and vibration.
Refrigerants
There is no doubt that traditional refrigerants have a negative impact on our environment and climate. The most important parameter here is Global Warming Potential (GWP), Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and how long it takes to break down the refrigerant in nature.
UniCool has been among the pioneers in Denmark with a new refrigerant named HFO-1234ze. The refrigerant is synthetic but has minimal negative impact on the environment and climate, where one-kilogram HFO-1234ze corresponds to less than one kilogram of CO 2 with a GWP factor of less than 1, ODP at 0 and decomposes in the atmosphere in 18 days. The real gamechanger at HFO-1234ze is that the refrigerant can be used in low-energy Turbocor compressors.
Sustainable cooling solution
In the choice of refrigeration solution, it is crucial to assess not only the negative effect of the refrigerant used, but also the energy consumption from the refrigeration system and the life of the refrigeration system.
UniCool is in a unique position to advise our customers in sustainable cooling and can design refrigeration solutions with minimal climate and environmental impact according to our customers’ requirements and wishes.
Since 2000, UniCool has built up considerable expertise in the design, installation and service of refrigeration systems based on natural refrigerants. UniCool is also among the market leaders in installation of cutting-edge cooling solutions, for example Turbocor based chillers using HFO-1234ze.
We did not stop driving in steam trains because coal did not work as fuel, but because new and better technologies were coming, and we believe that Danfoss’s turbocor compressors and HFO-1234ze are such a quantum leap forward.
